Mine won't even pay for any of my driving lessons. But I don't regret it as I've learn't to be independent.

Parents paid for lessons, £500 towards a car and the £200 deposit on my insurance. I only got the help towards getting me on the road because my sisters going uni and my parents didn't want me to feel left out, in no way am I spoilt I just couldn't afford everything myself with the amount I earn.

Mum paid for first 10 lessions for my 17th birthday then I paid everything else myself - car, insurance, tax and fuel. It was however in 2008 - I paid £400 for my car (loved it!) around £1000 for insurance and £180 for tax.

I paid for my son's lessons [we live in a rural area so driving is essential] and paid first year of insurance. He bought the car on 0% finance - I do borrow his car sometimes and cover the running costs for the trips I do.

My dad paid for my lessons, and my mum was looking for a new car anyway so i got her old one which only had a few payments left on it so my dad paid it off. I pay for running the car (Tax, MOT, Insurance, Petrol etc).

I am extremely grateful, i would have never been able to get myself a good car so quick after passing the test.

I’ve paid for all of it and fuel, makes it more rewarding and you look after it better. It’s expensive but worth it, think how long you want the car for example I got a bit of a more expensive first car as I won’t keep it for uni so it won’t drop in price as much so I won’t lose that much money when I sell it a year from now
