Hello!

I have a question regarding the migrant worker status based maintenance loan eligibility. If I had a migrant worker status in my first year of study and received a full maintenance loan but then, as of the next academic year, I stopped working and therefore lost my migrant worker status, does that mean that I lost the eligibility for the loan I took the previous year, i.e. that I will have to pay back the full amount I got last year to the Student Finance?

In other words, is the eligibility for a migrant worker status based maintenance loan treated as per the whole course or on a yearly basis? Do I have to be employed without a break for the whole duration of my course to be eligible for any funding?

And lastly, am I allowed to do the following: take out a maintenance loan in my first year based on my migrant worker status, not take one out in my second year (due to not having a migrant worker status anymore), and then take another one out in my third year?

Hi there,

This gets assessed per academic year. Yes, you can choose to not apply as a Migrant Worker for year two, but would need to apply all over again for year three as it won't roll over.
