I’ve been a longtime lurker on this forum and have found it very helpful, but can’t seem to find anything on this topic, so I figured I’d ask!

I’m an American recent BA recipient in the US looking to do postgrad study at Oxford. My intention is then to return to the US for a PhD.

I’m very interested in the politics of social media and digital advertising’s impact on both elections and government in democracies of varying levels of maturity.

The Oxford Internet Institute has a program that seems quite interesting, the MSc in Social Science of the Internet.

I studied abroad at Oxford for a year taking courses in DPIR; however, and frankly never heard a thing about OII. Does anyone have any experience with OII, either personally or just common knowledge?

I’m just debating whether I’m better off applying for an MPhil in Comparative Politics or another similar program given the international prominence of the department etc.

Thank you in advance for any advice or information you can provide!

Things like prominence of the dept don't mean much. Unless you are in the field it's unlikely that you will hear about highly specialised depts. How do the courses compare in terms of your interests? Ask them where their grads end up too.
