Reason for cladding in optical fibresWatch
One of the limits on the speed data can be transmitted I through a fibre is multipath dispersion. Its actually beneficial to kill rays which are significantly off axis
A question says 'what is the purpose of cladding in an optical fibre'. I have got a mark for saying that it protects the core from damage, but there is another mark for saying that it increases the critical angle. I've written that it decreases the critical angle as this would increase the amount of light that can be totally internally reflected. I don't understand why increasing the critical angle would be useful, can someone please explain?
