In my textbook it repeatedly calls sodium nitrate (III) NaNO2 and I was wondering is this a typo?

Its for the production of nitric (III) acid by reacting sodium nitrate and HCl.

People call HNO3 nitric acid. Strictly is it nitric(V) acid. OCR A state in their spec that if you ever see nitric (or sulfuric) then it is the common form: HNO3 (or H2SO4) - they will only include the numeral if there is an unusual oxidation number.

It is. Why do you think it is not?

NaNO3 is not sodium(III) nitrate. Sodium does not have oxidation state +3 in NaNO3.

NaNO3 is sodium nitrate, or sodium nitrate(V).

I remember from my textbook the reagents needed for formation of diazo compounds.
NaNo2+HCl - - > NaCl + HNo2
HNo2 + HCl (T<10°C) + phenylamine

The original question says sodium nitrate(|||) nor sodium (|||) nitrate.

I’m confused now

I assume you meant "not" in your first sentence. Look at your post 11. You quoted someone saying sodium(III) nitrate and said that is exactly what you thought NaNO3 was.

Also the III in brackets are capital letters I.

HNo2 + HCl (T<10°C) + phenylamine
No is nobelium

You should write NaNO2 + HCl -> NaCl + HNO2
HNO2 + C6H5NH2 + H+ -> C6H5N2+ + 2H2O

not NaNo2 or HNo2
