Opinions on Churchill College, Cambridge!

Hi guys.

I recently got a letter from Cambridge University and Churchill College saying that my open application has been allocated to Churchill College.

I was just wondering what people think of the college. I would appreciate it, if there are any current Churchill students that could offer their views on the place. Unfortunately i haven't had a chance to have a look at it yet, but i'm planning on in the next few days.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks AJ

I've applied for Law. But it seems like a very "arty" college, if you know what i mean?

But still looks OK. Not too bothered about how it looks from outside, as long as it's a good environment inside.

Actually Churchill tends to have a very good rep for science..

Everyone I've met from there has been lovely

edit: By the way, an advantage of Churchill is that you can live on college site for the whole of your degree (most people have to move out to college-owned hostels away from their college during their second year). Having said that, Churchill is a faur way away from everywhere  but living in college is handy, wherever college happens to be!

Churchill tends to be bias towards the sciences, and have more male students than female. Supposedly it's on the only hill in Cambridge, and people do criticise the architecture. But then again they criticise my beloved Robinson so they obviously don't have much taste.

yeah there is loads of engineers, natscis and mathematicians. most arts students here seem to have made an open application or been pooled. its about a 10 minute cycle into the main lecturing places in town, or a 10 minute walk through st johns to the market. it looks like a dump from the outside but its really nice inside, huge grassy areas, tennis courts, football pitches etc. etc. (biggest college grounds in cambridge).

the environment inside is great. there is always someone you knowing hanging around the bar to talk to or going out somewhere (which isnt always a good thing!) and lots of various things to do. and the staff are mainly really nice and not up themselves.

overall, everyone is pretty down to earth. you can walk on the grass and you don't need a gown for anything. there are also ducks.

its also really handy for the cavendish and the CMS but thats not much use to a lawyer i suppose.

Does anyone have any idea how many places they have for law at Churchill for 2005?

Or where i can find this info out?

I did a bit of research and the Law department is about 1 mile away from Churchill. So if i am accepted then it will be a long walk!

Shame about the Male:Female ratio as well :frown:

There's free bus (the C4) which goes into town via the Sidgewick site. If you're a bloke, no need to worry about the gender balance, as New Hall (100% female) is just across the road.

it's ok, some of it isn't that great to look at in my opinion. but then im biased towards pretty old fashioned buildings lol. but then the best things about colleges are the atmospheres, and every college has a great atmosphere, so im sure you'll love it. good luck!!
