Hey, i was wondering if anyone here has already set up their student bank account for this September. I don’t really know which bank to go for (based on overdraft & interest wise) - does anyone recommend a certain one?

Generally, you want to go for the student account which offers the highest 0% fee overdraft. However, you should be careful that you don’t get into too much debt with this, and always remember that any bank can demand you pay your overdraft in full anytime they wish. HSBC, Nationwide and Barclays are all offering up to £3,000 overdrafts this year.

You should also consider the ‘freebies’ that come with student accounts, such as amazon prime, railcards etc. Most big banks will offer these, as long as you shop around. Perhaps looking which is best for you. Santander offer a 4 year railcard while RBS and Natwest offer 4 year Express cards. If ordering from amazon is more your thing HSBC are offering 1 year Amazon Prime.

Hope this helps
