Truthfully I had a lot of expectations for uni, I have been waiting since I was about 15, I have never been he most popular kid, but i've always had friends, people I am still friends with now and I think if they had to describe me in three words, they would be kind, caring and probably clumsy.. but its so differen at unit!! I don't fit in with any one on my course, I usually have long hours in between lectures and as much as I try use those to socialise theyre just not my type of people.. they just talk about things like boys, and its like do you not get bored??? its been nearly a year now at university, and I am yet to have even a single conversation which I can actually relate to. I mean, of course I can take part in the boys convo, but im not close to anyone at uni so I don't even feel comfortable talking to them about it lmao.

what has everyone elses first year experiences been like?

Join a society. They'll have a common interest with you so they'll make for more interesting conversations.

I am actually a part of quite a few but they rarely have meetings or weekly things so even that's hard

I'm pretty much in the same scenario as you. The long breaks are annoying bc I'm literally hanging by a thread being around random people where we don't click, have nothing interesting to talk about and to avoid portraying as being lonely I hang around with the people on my course.

Out of all the people I have come across thus far it is unbelievable to think I have not found or connected with one person (at least).

I did at first, with this one girl who i happened to be close with in uni who was on my course but she has left the university completely so I have no one. When I mean no one. Not a soul. I am hoping when I start second year (this year) things will hopefully be a lot different, and that my uni does some sort of freshers fair (similar) filled with events or some sort to actually give people like myself the opportunity to make some friends.

Ps: I am also dreading the remaining two years at uni... including the workload and if I will ever have some sort of friends/friendship? Everyone right now is an acquaintance and it's starting to bother me that I don't have anyone around as a friend. Tbh. Bring on graduation at this point because I am ready to LEAVE

same! all my old friends went to different universities, so I pretty much just use the breaks to text them, even tho I do try to revise but it does get boring. and same! all my life I have never found it hard to find a common interest with someone but now it just seems impossible. Its not like I don't talk to people on my course, I do, e.g in lectures labs etc, but its so hard to hang around with them outside of all this because theyre just different people you know? and same, im not one to usually care what people think, but im starting to wonder, do people find me weird? I don't see why they would tho but idk

Everything you have mentioned is EXACTLY my situation! I have many solid friendships/friends from my college/school years where we still get in touch etc, I had a fun & active social life before university, I'm an outspoken, friendly & fun person so why haven't I found ANYONE To bond with?

Its actually crazy, like it just makes me think I am I doing something wrong? Do I need to change who I am etc? (Which I will not be doing but you get my drift lol) and it is hard to hang around people outside of uni as well, bc if we can't simply get along in uni itself how will we have that kind of relationship anyone else ?

But as people say, during the years people have developed solid friendships and may not want anyone else joining their circle which I find annoying. I honestly, don't even know what todo at this point but hope for the best 😭

Yeah it's crazy! Like one thing that made me think was, my best friend and i came home for the holidays, and we chose to go out to the city my uni is in, mainly bc its closer to home, but we were deciding where to eat and she said, what are some good places you literally live here??!!! And i was just like true but who am I supposed to go to these places with😂😭
And same! Im generally quite outspoken too but i just don't know why, i can't believe were both in the exact same situation haha, if you want then PM me!
Honestly, i do enjoy my course and so i am looking forward to the next two years, just not the social part :/ guess ill just have to see how things go!

I don't have any friends either - I really struggled with it at first, and then after Christmas I kind of just over it.

I'm at a uni where the classes are in the evening, so the uni body is huge mix of people which I really like! But I haven't found anyone to bond with, though tbh I've always had this problem throughout education and the only time I found good friends was when I was working at Starbucks when I was 17-18.

I'm taking Japanese and Global Politics and there are 2 people in my Japanese class that I really like and we get on well, but we only see each other once a week and they aren't really bothered about meeting outside class. Sucks, but what can you do? I can't join societies due to time as I work doing 40 hours a week so I can afford to live in London. The good thing is I like my job and the people I work with and I'm pretty sure I'd lose my mind if I wasn't working because it's become my social life in a way. Apart from that, my long-term boyfriend stays with me for most of the week which also helps keeping my sanity as my flatmates just keep to themselves and don't talk.

I feel like I also had these great expectations of uni in how I would meet friends for life and all that kind of thing, and it hasn't happened for me. I'm trying not to break my heart over it, but it's difficult

I can relate it's hard when you have high expectations of what uni will be like but when you get there, it's totally different. I've really struggled to find anyone that I click with, despite joining societies. Last term I just tried not to let it bother me and get on with studying but now I'm so fed up of being lonely and just wish I had some friends to hang out with. For others in the same situation, I'm sure you're all lovely people, we just must have not been lucky enough to find our type of people yet. I hope everyone's situation gets better and feel free to PM me anytime it's reassuring to know there are other people in the same boat

Awhhh yep. Same with me, in my city there are some cool places I'd like to go to but I have no one to go with, and you just imagine all of the things you could do if you just had that person (friend) present with you 😭😭

Okay I'll like to PM you so we can talk more aha you seem like a nice person. And for all we know we could be in the same uni lol.

I do like my course but transferring unis has always been in my mind, I haven't stuck through with it because I won't be entitled to a scholarship if I move 😂 so I'm literally staying and hanging by a thread... I really am hoping I find and some friends bc it is getting to me 😭😢

Hey my girlfriend has had similar problems with the people on her course and her flatmates, she’s come out of this year hardly making a friend and is looking for anyone to be her friend, if you need a friend to talk to she’d love to
