There’s various routes in. You don’t have to go to university. Even if you did, most degree disciplines will be accepted.

Not directly. But have experience in financial services and know enough about the industry to be able to comment

okay thanks alot, so if i go on to get a computer science degree i still have a chance to get into banking also right?

Any of those subjects as degree level will be fine - highly targeted by all employers, not just banks.

You could choose an apprenticeship route too.

priority number 1 is getting top grades and getting into a top university.

read my post in the ib forum for sixth formers.

that said, don't lock yourself into this path yet. it's really easy to just follow the pre-professional wannabe banker train of thought without considering that you might very well be a better fit for other careers. so, to re-iterate get the grades for the optionality but also explore other career paths too.

For certain roles within investment banking you do. Not everyone in an IB has a degree.

But even then the OP didn’t say only IB, they said “also IB”.
j-sp.. investment banking means investment banking.

nobody on earth would call someone in back office an investment banker..

I reckon you do either Economics on its own or Economics and Politics together or just go head first into an apprenticeship.

The OP didn’t say “investment banker”. They said they want to get into banking.

Not everyone who wants to work for a bank wants to be in the investment division.
the person you replied to did.

working at a bank =/= working in banking. ofc no one's arguing that, but it's kind of meaningless? if you're already convinced you want a career in a corporate function whether the company you're at is a bank or not doesn't influence your choice of career much - it's still just a corporate function.
