K2Cr2O7 vs KMnO4 as oxidizing agents - please help - very simple

Are these 2 disadvantages of using K2Cr2O7 as an oxidizing agent the same ?
And what are reasons I should use one over the other ?
For ex; why should I choose KMnO4 as my oxidizing agent if the solution to be oxidized can also be oxidized by K2Cr2O7 ?
Manganate(VII) ions are stronger oxidising agents than Dichromate(VI) ions.

Sometimes you don't want 'over-oxidation' to occur, for example:

We oxidise alcohols to ketones or carboxylic acids using Dichromate(VI) ions as using Manganate(VII) can further oxidise them to carbon dioxide and water.

Hope that helps
