University of Edinburgh Accomodation

Hi!

I am an international student from France. I booked a room at Edinburgh Unite Students Chalmers Street for the academic year 2019/2020.
Has anyone lived there recently and could tell about his/her experiences?
I went there on a room/building tour and it looks modern and clean, not shabby at all, very “civilised”, surrounded by vegetation and it is so close to “George Square” (the main campus of the university).
I also noticed a silence in the whole complex - it was almost depressingly calm. Now the thing is that I will be a first year and of course, finding friends/socialising is essential for me. I am now a little bit concerned that there is nothing going on in terms of flat parties, events etc. Moreover, I have seen so many Asian people there out of which so many spoke Chinese (please, that is not in a dis way or something...) but I know that in their culture there are huge differences to ours, communication and socialising with them is extremely difficult what I know from my own experience.

So anyone who lives or lived there:

Are my impressions wrong?
Are there a lot of 1st year students?
What are the pros/cons of this Accommodation?
What nationalities live there?
How is the service?
Are the rooms just as good as the one they showed me on my visit day?

I would appreciate any information!

Thanks!
