So, I've just found out that my open applciation was allocated to Homerton College. What do you think about it? Is it really focused in education and sports?

Homerton is a bit of a long way out (down Addies way) but its buildings are very pretty  and it's building up a rep; it only recently became fully affiliated to the university (before, it was a specialist teacher-training college) so some people may be a bit rude about it - some people are like that - but the people I know there seem very happy and successful

It sounds like Homer, who is amazing. So on that firm scientific grounding, I declare it a great college.

Yeah. I could try and pretend I was clever and actually knew about the philosopher guy who wrote Odyssey, but ill just admit that I meant Homer Simpson...

i am there!!! my open application was also allocated to Homerton College last year.

What do you think about it? Is it really focused in education and sports?

I think it's a great college, lots of things to do, including sport. it is quite far out so a bike would be good. About half the people here are studying education w/chosen subject.

Yeah well I knew you did

I don't know much about the other Homer either. In fact, I know nothing. Who cares about him? Let's have more Homer Simpson!

Well...yes. But don't burst my bubble.

You can always been interested in culture and still not really care much about Homer.

i could make it worse by saying that we don't know for sure if he actually existed, but he wasn't a philosopher and he didn't write.

Are you suggesting that the other Homer is not considered to be of cultural value?

Not at all! Though I think the ancient blind chap is a bit more valuable.
although it is argued that though we think of there being the homer (the greek one no american one) some scholars believe some of his works may have been by another person, also called homer...you can see where the confusion arises..

Never mind Homer. What about 'ton'?!

I know quite a few (at least 4 people) who got high Firsts for their subjects (NOT EDUCATION) this year at Homerton. One girl came Top 3 in the faculty (Natsci). So academically I don't think Homerton loses, as long as you want to do well, the college will provide you with everything you will need from free books to extra supervisions. You just have to write an email to your Director of Studies.

The atmosphere in Homerton is quite special. Tripos students tend to keep away from the education students and vice versa. We are very different types of people and the College knows this so even accomodation is arranged with this in mind.

I hope this helps. Afterall, it's the academic side of you that's more important, and in Cambridge it's a lot to do with self-learning and self-education.
