what is the better degree to do at uni ; international relations or politics and international relations?
my sister said international relations is a bad degree so i am wondering whether politics and international relations is better.

Anything to do with politics, including international relations, is a terrible degree because politics is basically glorified guesswork with very little substantial theory behind it. It's pretty hard to employ someone with a politics degree because you dont really learn any useful skills and there arent many careers prospects unless you go properly into politics, which is going to be hard unless you have a fair amount of money and power. If you really insist on doing international relations and/or politics do a combined degree where you can pick up some more employable credits alongside international relations.
