Will alcohol decolourise bromine water?

Will bromine water be decolourised by ethanol if it is added in a test tube or will it remain the same?

Bromine water won’t change colour as long as it doesn’t have a double bond. Bromine water is a test to tell the difference between an Alkane and Alkene

Yes but for example aldehydes will decolourise bromine water

Yes I think as long as there is a double bond from a carbon the bromine will bond with it therefore going colourless
Reply 4
Should a double bond be present in any organic compound tested, bromine water will decolorise.

Only alkenes decolourise bromine water.
