Two flasks X and Y are filled with an ideal gas and are connected by a tube of negligible volume compared to that of the flasks. The volume of X is twice the volume of Y.
X is held at a temperature of 150K and Y is held at a temperature of 300K
What is the ratio between the mass of gas in X and the mass of gas in Y.

How do I get to the answer, which is 4?

Everyone has different ways of getting to an answer, for me I would use ratios here. Apologies if this isn't 100% clear, it would look neater on paper.

Y X

300 150
1 2

Final ratio= 300/150 * 1/(1/2) = 4

I know this is a long time ago, but why is it 300/150 and not the other way round?
and why do multiply by 1/ 0.5? (The 0.5 part is what i am confused about)

It depends on how you attempt the question. 0.5 seems to be the ratio of volume of Y to the volume of X.
