When the stomata open water goes into the cell and makes it turgid. Does the water go into the guard cell, which makes the stomata turgid, or does the water go into the stomata?
Also does a high water potential mean that there is a high volume of water in a certain area?

The guard cells build up a large concentration of potassium ions (K+). As a result, the water enters the guard cells by osmosis (down the concentration gradient) as there is a lower concentration of water in the guard cells. This causes them to become turgid, pulling the stomata open. This allows water vapour, as well as gases, to move in and out of the plant. The opposite occurs when water moves out of the guard cells by osmosis, causing them to become flaccid, closing the stomata.

Essentially, yes. An area of higher water potential has a higher concentration of water. Therefore, water will always move to an area of a lower water potential (lower concentration of water) by osmosis.
