Fight or flight response Watch
In the fight or flight response, is the impulse passed from the sensory neurone to a relay neurone then to the cerebrum, or directly from the sensory neurone to the cerebrum?
In the fight or flight response, the stimulus is usually visual and/or auditory. In the case of the visual stimulus, the impulse will travel along the optic nerve to the lateral geniculate nucleus (in the thalamus) where it synapses with a second neurone which will then travel to the occipital cortex. Since the fight or flight response is a emotional response, this signal will reach the limbic system (including the amygdala). The point is, the fight or flight response is not a simple reflex involving a sensory neurone and a relay neurone - it’s a very complex process.
