When to use normal approximation for Hypothesis Testing??

The question: https://gyazo.com/a15e0500c5a35033a651a8ea8668ca87

Question (a) was just checking the significance and I acepted the null Hypothesis.

Question (b) just had me confused, and when I checked the mark scheme it just switched on to using normal distribution. The question didn't indicate to use it though, so i'm confused.

"Using a suitable approximation"

I've seen questions where it isn't obvious that you need to use a normal approximation but I'm not sure why you were confused by this one.
