Acyl chlorides & phenol

Why do acyl chlorides react with phenols but carboxylic acids don't? Is it because -Cl is more electronegative than -OH so acyl chlorides are stronger electrophiles than carboxylic acids?

Been a while but yeah I think so. The electron is provided by the delocalised electrons in the benzene ring and since the O and Cl in the acyl chloride are quite electronegative the C would have a bigger Delta+ than in the carboxylic acid
