If I didnt use the extract on the question, does it affect my mark because I "technically" haven't read the question. My teacher tells us to ignore it. I'm worried if I may fail now, and I dont want to fail because I want to do it in college.

What exam board do you do? I do AQA and I’m pretty sure you’re meant to answer the question using the extract and then the whole novel

I do AQA, and does that mean that I failed it then?

It doesn't mean you fail however, you will get lower marks than you potentially would have because it tells you to start with the extract that it gives you.

Your mark will be significantly lower. The question is split into two elements; extract and elsewhere. You should talk about both even if your not aiming for a 7/8 or 9.

If you wrote about a quote from what you thought was from elsewhere in the play, but was coincidentally in the extract, you should be fine
