Maths help needed!!!

In an office, there are twice as many females as males
1/4 of females wear glasses
3/8 of males wear glasses
84 people in the office wear glasses
work out the number of people in the office

okay...

call number of females 2x and number of males x hence there are double the number of females than males

do 1/4 times 2x to get x/2 females wearing glasses then for male glasses times 3/8 by x = 3x/8 male glasses

add x/2 and 3x/8 to add to 84 first add the fractions

times the 84 by 8 to get rid of the fraction on the left

therefore now the equation is

7x=672

divide 672 by 7 to get x

remember x is number of men so this is 96, then times by 2 to get number of females 96*2= 192 females

finally add together 96+192= 288 people in the office together :smile:
