How would I obtain this:
Name:  Capture6.PNG
Views: 12
Size:  9.5 KB

I can't figure how to resolve the sum of squares vs the square of sums

If w is a constant then w may be placed before sigma, then w squared will appear as numerator and denominator and cancel out. I'm afraid that's all I can offer.

This is not true in the generality stated. So, are there some conditions (on the w’s, for example) that we are missing here? Suggest you post the whole question.
