Hello!

I have been offered a place at Southampton to study midwifery this year. I am currently doing the access course, and need 39 out of 45 credits at distinction.

I am currently on track for the grades. However, if I don't achieve 39 and come away with less - how lenient are Southampton? Has anyone had any experience?

Thank you!

Ring them up and ask them about this. They should be able to give you some indication whether they normally have some flexibility and if so what they take into account.

If you're on track then this isn't really something you need to worry about.

If you fail to meet your offer then you can't expect to be accepted - the university is well within their rights to reject you. If you very narrowly miss your conditions, they may, at their discretion, still accept you or offer a different course with lower requirements. Whether they choose to do this really depends on the number of applications they have received at the time you get your results, and the quality of their applications, so it's not really something that is possible to predict in advance.

With nursing/midwifery it is vital that you meet the maths/english requirements set out - these are non-negotiable.
