Help with a question on optical isomerism??

“State the name of a positional isomer of butan-2-ol which also has optical isomerism”

I’m stuck because the only positional isomer I can think of is butan-1-ol but I don’t think that it has a chiral carbon atom

Butan-2-ol itself exhibits optical isomerism. You are correct in saying that the butan-1-ol isomer does not. There are no other positions to locate the hydroxyl group.

Maybe there is a typo in the question.

How can you deduce the number of optival isomers a compound have, including the compound, by looking at the number of chiral centres ?

You should make you own thread for a different question.

The answer is 2n , where 'n' is the number of chiral centres
