Is Russell Group really important?

Hello everyone,
I am planning to do my masters in Marketing and I can not decide which university to choose.
I think I am between Bath and Leeds.
Bath seems to be better but Leeds is in Russell Group while Bath is not.
What do u think?

It doesn't matter. Bath's a great uni and if you want to go there, go.

Nope does not matter, Warwick is a russel group but it dropped out of the top 10 this month. Russell Group is only really great if you are doing a PhD like the person above said as your PhD will be mainly about research and Russell Group unis are research unis. Go on the ranking for your subject and see what you like from there :smile:

no going to a good university is (whether for the specialist area or more broadly). universities sit in "clusters" of similarly reputed institutions and to be frank some clusters are better than others.

in this case Bath > Leeds

Lmao you said it not me. I’m clearly implying (not sure how you missed it) that Warwick is a Russell Group uni that has dropped in Uni rankings lol. Loughborough is not a Russell but goes up in rankings almost every year.

One would expect russell groups to dominate the top 10 but they don’t so?

And unless you’ve been to every university I think the ranking system is useful as it ranks based on different aspects such as TEF and student satisfaction.

No, but you definitely won't go wrong with Bath (or Leeds for that matter).

It is not the sort of career where the uni you go to is of supreme importance, so you are overthinking it. Just go to whichever uni you prefer.

Depends on the field you want to go into. You can ask each uni (or check their websites) about where grads end up, their links with the sector and work/research opportunities.
