i shut my hand in the car door on friday and its really hurting.

hi

so on friday, i shut my hand in my car door before i had to babysit. at the time it didnt hurt at all, it should have done but it didnt. the next day i had a car accident, but it only started hurting after i came home from AnE so didnt get it checked out.

when i look at it it has a noticable ridge and is swollen and bruised coloured :s-smilie:

i know i should prob ask a dr, but i thought it was weird how it didnt hurt for like 15hrs later. is it normal to not feel any pain for almost a day after?

thanks

Well if it's still hurting shouldn't you be like going to the doctors ASAP?

that happened to my brother, looked pretty painful. you should go to the Dr.

could have been adrenaline, it will block out pain. Dont know why you would have gotten a boost though for shutting your hand in the door. Most likely shock. I broke my finger about a year ago in american football practice and i remember thinking at the time, oh its wierd it doesnt hurt because the top of my finger was at a complete angle (simple break). But the next day it swelled up and absolutly killed. Go to a doc, you've probably just broken a bone, he'll prescribe some light painkillers, and maybe give you a cast if its a bad break

the reason i was putting off going is cos i thought they would just tape it up to the next?

it does hurt quite a lot though, ive taken 2 paracetamols and it still hurts :frown:

taping it up is good, if its a fracture or break you'll need to get it strapped or splinted to give it a decent chance of healing

Bruising and sprains often hurt more the next day as the swelling takes hold.

What part of your hand did you trap as it isn't clear from ur post?

You could try icing it to reduce some of the swelling and if it is you finger then tape it to the next one.

oh its my fingers, mainly the middle three fingers of my right hand, and the middle section upwards of those fingers. i dont know if that makes sense though

that sounds very painful just like shutting the door on your fingers! go to the doctor
i would deffo go to A&E or thr doctors and get a xray just to check its all okay

if not strap it up and keep it immobile

As it is quite an extensive injury maybe go to your GP (or the nurse) and they will be able to examine it. If they suspect a fracture then they can refer you to A+E for an xray.
Oh dear I feel your pain, Saturday night I got my thumb stuck in my boy friends car!

Now its all bruised.... For me I know its just bruised but because yours wasn't immediate i would go see a Dr just to be sure  x

Yer, run to your GP! Actually, get an ambulance cos it's that much of an emergency... Why does everyone want this chap to see his GP? An ENP would be far more appropriate.

Personally, I'd go to an A&E or, preferably, a minor injuries unit tomorrow, between 8.30 and 10.30, when they're not too busy.

Because...

What's the diagnosis?
If you go to your GP there only going to say go to A&E, might be broken as when I broke a few of my fingers it didnt hurt for a while
You should definitely go to the Dr, you could have ruptured something or anything.
firstly...sounds like your car hates you, trapping your hand in a door, THEN being in a car accident, OUCH!

Yeah get it checked out, better to be safe than sorry, try an NHS walk in centre?
