Do examiners actually check literary critic quotes?

If I were to say that "one critic" says something and I make up the quote, are the examiners likely to find out?

If you make it up I'm pretty sure they'll know but if it's not 100% accurate but you have the jist of it I think it's ok

I don't think they have the time if I'm honest. They probably should, but I doubt that they actually do.

There are so many different sources you could have used (old text-books, literary magazines, etc), so the examiner would never be able to rule out the possibility the quote was authentic, even if they decided to google it in the first place, which is unlikely. However, I can't see why you would want to do this, since your own opinions are enough without the title "critic" to back them up. Critics are only useful when they actually add new material and enhance your argument.
