The Student Room Group

Leeds College of Music or Dbs

Hello everyone!I'm a student from Italy.I've been offered an unconditional place to study Music Composition for Film at LCOM,and a conditional offer for the same course at Dbs Music in Bristol.I really don't know which one to choose.I think that LCOM is a better school than Dbs,but Im not really sure about that. Also,I'd like to live in Bristol instead of Leeds:it seems one of the best cities to live in the UK,but it's more expensive and it looks like is much more difficult to find a room there. So,I really don't know which one to pick! Any advices? Thanks!
congratulazioni, auguri!

I'd never heard of the dBs Music in Bristol, "Cornwall College partner", until I read your query. Is it a private music college, do you get a diploma or just "training"?
Bristol is a mini-London, quite a nice place, near the sea/River Severn, I have friends who are moving there this summer to live and work post degree. It is like studying in Genoa, not quite as ancient and nice as Genoa, but about the same population size, perhaps a similar historic sea-faring mentality

I have heard of LCOM, it's still quirky but perhaps a bit more academic than dBs? (experts pile-in!)
Leeds is a B I G northern city, very comparable with Milano, not quite so much government investment, so transport/traffic is busy, houses a bit cramped and damp, really nice people, prices are affordable. The LCOM is really placed in a renewed bit of the Leeds city centre, you should be able to find OK accommodation, tho' some friends at Leeds uni started looking already & reserved by January 2019, for this September.

When do you have to decide?, can you wait until after your Maturità results - hence resolve the conditional/unconditional

Hello LuigiMario (are you italian?). The deadline to reply draws near,is 6xth June! The conditional offer is not based on my Maturità results (I'm a mature student and I graduated at high school several years ago),but is based upon completin some bridgework (a research on film music and equalization of an arrangement I did),which I almost finished. Ofc,for both universities I need to achieve an IELTS certificate with a minimun score of 6,but there shouldn't be any problem about that.

Not Italian, just British who traveled the world and ended up where the wine is nice & a good price and it is generally sunnier here than in UK, but not so much this year!

I'm from Leeds originally, but now in Lombardia, which is basically southern southern Switzerland and not the real Italy.

Ok on your ielts, good luck! How can you go wrong with "unconditional" , but, have you visited both colleges?
if you haven't then , do a lot further research, (at least use Google Maps/street-view , where would I live, eat etc) this course or courses that you are doing is so very highly specialised that you need to check the alumni, the related work opportunities?
work: Bristol has Aardman used to have BBC natural history, Leeds has what used to be Yorkshire TV (rebranded nowadays?) they might offer some sort of placement, internship, if your course needs that. Manchester is UK's media city nowadays

getting into the Media cognoscenti is hard in any country, looks like you're already an expert as you are arranging real stuff, as a true Yorkeshireman I'd suggest you simply go where it is best value for money! (but occasionally 'tykes' can be wrong)
