Why was the main answer in the mark scheme distillation ?
The marks scheme allowed fractional distillation but I was wondering why distillation was correct in the first place. We were given no information on the boiling points but considering these are both liquids isn’t fractional distillation better ?

Fractional distillation is most appropriately used to separate more than two substances in one process.

Simple distillation is more appropriate when you just want to separate one substance from a mixture of two substances, such as in your example. If you're not needing to collect multiple products there's no point over-complicating the experiment / apparatus / chemical plant.
