Hi there, i'm taking N5 English this year, and i need to complete a discursive essay for one of my folio pieces. Nothing's coming to me, and I can't think of any topics.

Doing AH English this year and got an A at N5 so will hopefully be some help at least

From what I've heard, there are some topics that are done to death: Abortion, euthanasia, gun control, feminism and gender equality, school uniform, animal rights/testing, school systems, Scottish independence, Brexit - to name a few. If you really can't think of anything else, these are all solid options but you may have to work extra hard to make your essay stand out.

It's a good idea to think radical for this - markers like something different or a niche topic.

Topics you could think about that are a little outside of the box:

Jury vs Solemn Trials
Medical Ethics
Cyrogenics/Transhumanism
Compulsory voting
A World Parliament
Interesting areas from other courses you are studying that are controversial

If there is something you are particularly interested in and passionate about, you will be more likely to write a strong essay on it.

If you're still not sure feel free to PM me
