The Student Room Group

Benefits and student loans

I've been previously told that I can't receive ESA and apply for a student loan. My ESA has stopped (now in hands of tribunal unfortunately) and though this is stressful I wondered if it meant I could now apply for student finance? I became disabled in 2012, and returning to study via distance learning would help with my rehabilitation.

Hi,

You being in receipt of ESA does not stop you from receiving student finance. Although, it may be the other way around that you cannot receive ESA when in receipt of finance as well. You'd need to query that with your benefit office.

Thanks, Chanel
