A lot of "coughing" in exams

A lot of people were "coughing" in some of our exams, only the non-option ones like maths and science. In science it was almost unbearable, everytime I started to think about a q someone coughed. Okay I know coughing is natural, but the people coughing were obviously doing it on purpose cause they were doing the foundation paper and had finished before those doing higher/didn't give a *******. I'm not talking about small innocent coughs here, atleast 10 people had developed chronic coughs from the previous day. You know how it goes - 1 person starts coughing, then everyone else starts. This happened loads in the mocks but I didn't think it would in the real thing!! Everyone noticed it but not everyone was distracted, mainly me cause I can't concentrate if theres a lot of noise.
I know I sound pathetic but I'm sure I dropped atleast 7 marks because of the coughing, I started writing stupid stuff like 1nm = 1 billion metres, every though I knew it was 0.000 000 001 metres, it really distracted my train of thoughts.
do you think I can complain about this? I'm so surprised that the invigilators didn't stop the ppl. I really should have got some earplugs :s-smilie:

I was gonna say after the exams, but didn't wanna look petty and stupid, but in all seriousness it was quite bad. I guess I shoulda said something, but you know, then it actually looks like you "care about how you do in your exams" *shock horror*!

Complain about people being ill and coughing? No.
Try to just drown out the noise and be peaceful, in other words, deal with it.
It can't be proven they're doing it on purpose, so you'll just have to get used to it, I'm afraid.

We had some little brat from lower down in the school coughing all the way through our English exam, so the invigilators moved him out of the exam hall and wrote to the exam board asking for consideration.

Some guy on here said he was kicked out of an exam for coughing, despite it being legit. So how can they all get away with it at my school? I hate how everyones afraid of being politically correct nowadays.
Lol, join in it's funny.

I do relate since I've had people do things like that and it is REALLY annoying. I mean it's not like a normal cough, it's like every idiot finding it funny to cough really loudly on purpose. but at the end of the day, c'est la vie, what can we do?

That's a pretty massive error for a bit of coughing.

It's unfortunate, but there's not much you can do about it now. At the time, I suppose, you could've put your hand up and complained.

yeah funny, if you have finished your exam. i don't mind noise if its in an easy exam, but that exam was pretty hard and unexpected q's.

clearly some people can work with loads of noise, and i admit i am pretty crap at concentrating, i can't even revise unless everythings silent. i think I even wrote the word "cough" a few times in my english exam
I remmeber a few people doing this during an exam, light coughs

i did a realllly deep roaring cough the type that you make when your about to throw up from the bottom of your lungs

everyone shut up.. :borat:

Unfortunately, while you can complain about it, you're unlikely to achieve anything more than perhaps invigilators at your school being slightly more strict on those who cough deliberately in the future. If you're looking for anything to be done on a higher level, i.e. exam boards to take it into account when marking your paper, not a great deal can be done, as it's explicitly stated in the guidelines for special consideration that disruption is not grounds for extra marks being awarded.

Some guy was trying to do that in the english lit exam.

And one guy to the right of him went "Shut the **** up or I'll smash your face in"

the invigilators let it pass, because he made an excellent point.

Gah... Those coughers, coming over here, stealing our air!

People did this during my GCSE's, it's annoying and childish, but they cut it out by A levels, because they're just so hard.

I've just done an end of first year exam with a streaming cold...if they'd been strict on coughing (and doodling) I'd have been screwed.

Haha legend.
I hate people who think disrupting exams is funny.
...Yeah, I had a rather nasty throat infection in my English Language AS exam which I didn't choose to have, sorry, if coughing stops you from concentrating you need to get better at concentrating.
The foundation people always seem to talk in our exams and get away with it.

And one of our invigilators had to leave the French listening exam when she had a coughing fit as no one could hear the tape.
