Sustainable development should be the capacity to improve the standard of living of the current population whilst not compromising the standards of future generations.

Ok i touched on this a little at geo A level, with ecotourism but i'm doing it more in depth at uni. Anyways all i wanted was what YOU think sustainable development is. We have to do some work on our different views etc and what we understand it to be.

Anyhoo wud be a great help to me.... please   So.. Sustainable Development - Discuss

Utilising today's resources to meet the needs of today's population with out compromising the needs of future generations!

How that?? Not bad off the top of my head! *prays that question comes up at the Cambridge interview*
My main A2 module for Geog is Sustainable Development, love it!

yeah... was gonna say 'today's resources' is probs a better term than improving the standard of living. SoL is pretty narrow... what about environment + quality of life...
I remember in my AS exam paper they said SoL and QoL were the same thing and I made a note to the examiner saying they weren't!
they must have thought i was a cocky bastard. hehe.

Almost right, but the last part should read 'without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs', instead. 'Compromising the needs' doesn't quite make sense.
