And this is why I don't like discussing the Church; it always leads to bigots coming out of the woodwork.
Is that why you’ve joined in the conversation?

Don't quote me if you're not going to give an argument.

Well he has and hasn't, that's the beauty of it, he's commented to show his disagreement and his claim that a section of people here are bigots, but he's given no argument, so in short, it's the standard religious comment.

Indeed, i rather like to the think of them as the 'but look at them over there' sort of comments. Attacking others or redirecting the conversation to some other group whilst utterly ignoring the point of the debate. Plus apparently being utterly oblivious as to what the word bigot means or how to use it.

Saying that the Catholic church has a history of abuse and bigotry isn't bigotry, it's like saying that water is wet, a well known fact with no controversy in it.

Yes but according to this user anyone who points out the churches failings is an evil bigot. I believe most other people would call this rank apologism of the worst sort.

Pretty much everything.

Civilisations have only thrived via the economic value that comes about as a result of the nuclear family. Destroying that will cause the opposite effect.

The promotion of "alternative genders" will make more people unattractive as potential willing or desirable mates, thus reducing the birth rate.
Civilisations that have thrived have done so for a multitude of reasons: good food security, good infrastructure, stable/workable political systems, good economic growth, success in diplomatic conflicts, etc.

Several things:

1. The nuclear family isn't being destroyed and destroying the nuclear family won't see the collapse of civilisation anyway.
3. LGBT, or specifically trans, people are not destroying the nuclear family; they make up too small a part of the overall population to even have this impact, even if they wanted it (which they don't).
4. You can have a nuclear family (or at least one which is functionally the same) which includes a transgendered parent.
5. Transpeople don't care that you find them "unattractive" and not "potential willing or desirable mates". You're good, don't worry about it.

first of all, mentioning sex scandals is totally irrelevant. second of all, it's cliche and a copout.
Drawing attention to systematic child abuse that takes place within an organisation that claims to be a moral authority is never irrelevant.

third of all, the actions of a few people does not define the religion. you should know this, as an adult. unless there's something in the bible or religious texts itself which the Catholic church teaches that states: "one must and should molest people" you're failing to convince anyone that the Catholic church and Christian religion is too corrupt and therefore in no place to still pass proper values :hmmm:
Yet is not just a few bad apples. The Catholic Church repeatedly conspired to conceal the nature and extent of child sex abuse. It was more concerned with protecting its own reputation than protecting the victims.

Sadly your attitude is far too common. It is what allowed catholic priests, Jimmy Saville and Rotherham grooming gang to get away with what they did. I only hope you never find yourself in a job where child safeguarding is important. Thankfully, given your history of aggression in the workplace, that is unlikely to happen.

tsr is quite monotonous and sheepish
Are you smart enough to appreciate the irony of someone defending the Catholic church accusing others of being sheepish?

(Original post by Bang Outta Order)
 you guys can say whatever you want. Catholicism isnt going anywhere,
You appear to be a bit out of touch. In a recent survey, 52% of British people identified as non-religious.

why do you guys bother with your futile pseudo intellectualism?
Care to explain how mentioning child sex abuse to point out the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church qualifies as futile pseudo intellectualism?

The people bringing up the Church's record on sexual abuse (which is a lot less dark then you would have it) on a topic irrelevant to that should hang their heads in shame. You're doing the same thing as Tommy "WhAt AbOuT ThE MuSlAmIc RaY GuN TaXi PaEdOs In RoThErHaM" Robinson, and it comes from the same place of hatred.

Except Robinson is branding an entire religious group whilst these comments are directed at the churches hierarchy...

It's not hatred to state the truth. The church has been covering up child sexual abuse for a long time now. This is fact. Its well established that prominent cardinals and bishops covered up child abuse in the Catholic church.Instead of reporting paedophile priests to the police they would simply move them to different parishes or onto other duties. When you combine that with the murders that happened in orphanages in northern ireland, their stance on gay people and their position on AIDs.Well it's a wonder that anybody still listens to them on matters regarding morality. Those pretty white robes they wear are absolutely drenched in blood.

Gender is a human construct. It was invented in the 1950s by Ambaco (the American Bathroom Company) in order to sell more bathrooms ("toilets" in English).

Far from it. The Catholic Church believes it has a literal God given right to lecture us on morality while simultaneously repeatedly covering up child sexual abuse. Go and read the many case studies on sexual abuse within the church. You’ll notice a common theme. Catholic priests emotionally manipulate, gaslight and threaten the victims to protect their pedo colleagues and the reputation of the church,

Criticism of the Catholic Church does not come from hatred, it comes from the awareness of the harm it has caused to children and the obvious hypocrisy of claiming to be a moral authority while engaging in morally repugnant behaviour. If you fail to grasp this, you’ll struggle to understand why people are abandoning Christianity in the UK.

Quite the opposite, the nuclear family was a product of economic development. Living separately from your parents as a working adult, especially if far away, was an unaffordable luxury for most of human history.

(Original post by Jebedee)
You're right. Who needs a functioning birth rate anyway right?
Nuclear families and declining birth rates come together. Indeed, the former would be much less viable without the latter.

Another episode of "no the Catholic Church is not some all powerful organisation that controls all of Christianity and attacks children"

Oh wait, I forgot, it is. They're on to us! Hide the secret bunker of religiousness! Stop eating that baby, we have plenty at home! Get the mind control ray out! /s

Having a family unit to take the burden of the children so the man could work without disruption, is how the nuclear family drove economic development. Can you think of a culture that thrived without it? There's a reason why in the modern era, the default of all thriving cultures that survived to this day have a basic default of the nuclear family.

Cultures that promoted overt sexuality, such as the romans, didn't make it.

Did you seriously just blame the demise of the romans on ‘overt sexuality’? 😂😂😂😂 oh wow.

Overt sexually = not enough children

Not enough children = increased liberalism

Increased liberalism = weakened in-group and a lack of desire to defend their group
