i think a lot of places its just random...sometimes they try to pick a mix of people doing different subjects and other times put people doing the same subjects...

For NTU, I selected my accomodation online, then they let you choose your block, floor, flat and the very room you're in! So I was able to see where all was booked up and where wasn't, and choose if I wanted to be near the kitchen or stairway or what. It was pretty sweet.

Cool! The reason I'm asking is two reasons, I'm quite a quiet person and would find it quite hard to settle with people who are extremely outgoing and 2) I have a nut allergy, which could make sharing kitchens rather interesting...

At Exeter, when we filled out the accommodation form we had to tick interest boxes (which to be fair were pretty narrow), specify our degree subject, and smoking/non smoking etc and special requirements which must have included allergies too.
This is how they divide people up. And I think it worked pretty well, I get on with all of my flat mates, couldn't have asked for better

With the nut allergy, I hear some universities give you draws for fridges and then your own cupboard, doubt it's all universities but there's a bright side for everything.

Well the two places I actually applied for were different. Sheffield didn't let you pick a specific place, just the kind of accommodation (en suite etc) you wanted, and asked about usual bedtimes/instrument ownership etc.

Cardiff just asked for a preference list of halls.

And also because I have Severe Dyspraxia, ASD and Sensory Intergretive Disorder. Which means I will need quite a quiet room if I am going to get any sleep at uni, as I have very hyperacute hearing...god this makes me sound really awkard!

Is there anything you DON'T have?
seriously though, most places ask for these details on the application form and choose your accommodation accordingly.
