Applying for French at University

I am wanting to apply for French at university and I was wondering what things I will need to include on my personal statement, for example, should I read some French book? If so which ones are good ? Should I try get some work experience ? (Eventhough it is hard for a language) ? Any advice would be nice. Thank you
Why do you want to spend 3 or 4 years studying French (and only French) at Uni?
What is it about the study of the language and culture of France that you really enjoy?
When did you first realise that French was your fave subject? What happened?

What have you most enjoyed about studying French A level (or IB or whatever)?
Why do you now want to take this to degree level?
Why do you want to spend a year abroad as part of your degree?

What do you intend to use it for in the future - ideas about a career?
What else (outside school) have you done that displays your ability in French or your enthusiasm for this degree - travel, attending relevant exhibitions/museums, any Uni lectures of any sort?

Answer all of these questions and you'll be there.
