What are the chances that I had a page missing on my exam? [12th June Maths P2]

Hi there,

12th June Edexcel A Level Maths Paper 2

I thought I smashed the paper and got around 95%(I will obviously lose some working marks in random places so its more like 89%) but then I was talking to my friends and they were talking about a numerical methods question (Question 11) which I don't remember doing.

I go on thestudentroom and see everyone talking about this x = 1/e solution and I couldn't recollect doing a question like it.

I went through the paper 3 times or so and I thought to myself there is no way I missed a question and that I've answered everything.

It seems like I missed Question 11 or it was misprinted for me.
What are the chances it was a misprint or is that virtually impossible?

I can't believe something like this happens to me on my A LEVEL EXAM!!!!!

It was 11 marks so that drops me down to 78% so that's borderline A* if taken in reference to previous years but I'm not too confident with Stats and Mechanics so that 'borderline low A*' may become a 'borderline high A'.

I'll mention that I need an A* in Mathetmatics to do my course before someone comments 'boohooo your still going to get at least an A'

That's hilarious how you skipped a page. Thanks for lowering the grade boundaries!!

I guess it's a form of community service
Should've put 'lower grade boundaries' on my DofE instead of doing genuine volunteering.

oh my god
that is the only thought process in my mind right now

Do they not scan in the exams? Surely if a question was missing the person marking it would notice and ask for the actual paper.

God is the only thing saving me from jumping off a bridge.
People may respond that A is still good but I need A*A*A to go to my top choice uni and my course requires A* in Maths.

That's what I was thinking if it was truly missing. I'll get my paper back on results day but of course this has f*cked me up mentally.

if you skipped the question the scan would be an unattempted question but if you didn't get the question in the first place nothing would exist so of course someone would notice

Go and speak to your examinations officer as soon as you can. It seems pretty unlikely that the exam was misprinted but if that was the case you need to do something about it right away

Go speak to the exams officer before they send the papers away. They can check for you.

Assuming the worst and it wasn't missing, I'm pretty sure you've still got an A* on that paper, depending on how you felt about paper 1, you are still in a pristine position to come out of paper 3 on friday with a very high chance of getting an A* overall. The last thing you need is paranoia ruining your chances of performing well in paper 3 so forget about what's happened and focus on finishing off strong.

You're exactly right.
I know I shouldn't get paranoid but it's the same feeling like when you try to not be stressed before an exam. It's not the optimum position but you still end up pushing yourself into a situation which is bad for you.

I went to speak to my exams officer but I realised too late. They shipped them off 30 minutes before I realised. All I can do now is wait until results day and get my paper back and see if it was genuinely missing or I was so unlucky and didn't see the question, even though I went through the paper 3 times.

If it was missing I hope it is caught when they scan the papers or I'm just an idiot for not realising in the exam that I jumped from Qu 10 to Qu 12.

I was able to check a blank paper and went to see if the opposite page to Qu 11 was a question I did (confirming if I missed it) but the other page was just lined paper so I have no indication if I missed it or not.

I mean a misprint is probably unlikely.
Just smash the next exam than stressing about this small hiccup.

Your exams officer will be able to contact the exam board for them to dig out your paper and check manually. If there was a page missing (which is possible) then they will be able to calculate your "likely" final mark by a simple bit of maths.

I've been told that I will have to wait until results day to access my script again to check for any potential misprints.
A long anxious wait awaits.

Did you find out if it wasn’t printed?
