Hello!

I hope that you are well and congratulations on your offer to come and study with us for Fashion Design BA (Hons)!

My name is Laura and I am a current student at De Montfort University, Leicester. Pleased to meet you. I have some information for this course that might help you in making your decision!

Fashion Design BA (Hons) at DMU is creative and dynamic allowing you to understand and experience the constant flux and evolution of the fashion industry. Graduate designers of DMU can bridge the boundaries between creativity, technology and design innovation. Specialist areas of study include womenswear, menswear or fashion knitwear which gives you the opportunity to gain specialist design and technical expertise relevant to industry needs. British Fashion Council, Burberry, Warehouse and New Look are some of the organisations that have set live projects for students to gain a diverse range of relevant skills.

Additionally, DMU is ranked in the Top 10 for Fashion and Textiles in the UK for ‘Graduate Prospects’, according to The Guardian University Guide 2019 and 100% of Fashion Design BA graduates from summer 2017 are in work or further study after graduating, according to the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) 2016-17 report.

Furthermore there are opportunities to take part in DMU's international experience programme, #DMUglobal, where students have travelled to New York to visit global brands such as GAP, Burberry, Coach and Joules.

Students are also able to enter prestigious national and international competitions to boost their industry exposure. DMU graduate, Hazel Symons, was named winner of the Christopher Bailey Gold Award at the 25th Graduate Fashion Week. Students have the opportunity to showcase their designs on this catwalk in London in their final year. DMU graduates have also had the opportunity to showcase their collections as part of fashion weeks and events in Shanghai, Mumbai and Hong Kong.

DMU's new Vijay Patel Building is the centrepiece of the £136 million Campus Transformation Project and is home to all art and design students providing them with a dedicated workspace allowing them to flourish. As well as this, cash awards of £150, £200 and £300 for students in years one, two and three respectively, towards materials and specialist printing* can be obtained. Students can also benefit from experienced practitioners supporting the course including Anthony Campbell, Jo Cope, Martha Zmpounou and Donya Coward.

There are also a range of activities for you to partake in if you'd like to experience the social side and get to know all of the different people we have on campus! For example, there's the sports village on campus which offers gym facilities, timetabled classes, rock climbing, swimming and more! And you can also head over to our Students Union pub which hosts a range of events including quiz night. Another great way to meet people is by joining one of our many societies - we have over 50 to choose from:colondollar: Feel free to check out our student life page on our website to find out more!

In your final year, you'll be able to show off your work at our annual Graduate Fashion show! This is a great opportunity for networking as we invite employers down to the show too.

When it comes to employability, we have strong working relationships with a number of partners, and this includes the likes of Ted Baker, F&F, Maria Grachvogel, and Ally Capellino! Not only do we have these links, but we're just a 25 minute train journey from Kings Cross meaning you'll have the transport links you need to get out there and network, or even find a work placement based in the buzzing city! The opportunities here really are endless

Plus, the main thing you want to make sure is that you're really going to enjoy the next 3 years! We're happy to say our students think highly of the course and we have a strong graduate employability rate. You can check out all of the stats on Unistats to see for yourself.
