There were 15 participants, each with a score on an anger rating scale (or something like that). The median score before an anger management session was 23. How many participants scored below the median before the session?
To work out the median, you have to put all scores in order from lowest-highest, then select the middle value. 15 participants ÷ 2 = 7.5, so the median score belonged to the 8th participant. Therefore, there were 7 participants scoring lower than that 8th participant.
('23' is absolutely pointless and I'm convinced they only put it in there to melt people's heads.)
