I think I failed my A Levels, can I consider Clearing?

Hey all,
I'm pretty well versed on the concept of clearing, but practically- I dont think I did well in my A Levels and believe I should seriously consider looking for clearing places for my course in advance of results day.
That said, does contacting a Uni and asking for a space mean I obliged to go to that Uni? I feel it would save time in the long run to get my space now before everyone rushes for them, however what if I do... Decently in my A levels?
Firstly, don't panic. Many people get a bit down after exams and convince themselves that they have 'failed' and frequently they haven't done that badly at all. You may be pleasantly surprised in August. And, even if you have dropped a grade, your Uni may still take you anyway.

Clearing - read this TSR guide to Clearing : https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/university/apply/clearing/introduction-to-clearing
And there is another useful one about Results Day : https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/results/a-level/guide-to-a-level-results-day
