Mystery text - what do i say

Keep annon or delete...

Hey folks, ive got myself a bit of a dillemma. I got a text about 3am - saying "i got your number off your friend, call me". I dont know which of my mates it could be, and dont know if its best i go calling around every mate i suspect to have passed the number on. First off i dont even know if this is a joke, second off if it isnt - this sorta thing has never happened to me before *blush*.

So...what do i say when i call back?

Forgice my innocence/naievety. And if by some chance the female in question happens to use TSR, no harm intended...

Don't do it. I've been the victim of two different mystery callers and texters and I once got a text like you did and it led to a mystery callers constantly videocalling me with videos of him jacking off. No doubt they got my number off one of my friends since I've been paranoid with my number anyways so I've only given it out to 4 of my close mates.

It may be a scam to get you to call that number which will turn out to be premium rate.

That happen to a friend.

Probably a premium rate scam. I've had a few texts saying something like "Uh, can't believe Luke did that to you" on the premise I text back saying "Sorry, wrong number?" or "What?!" and then it charges me lots and lots. (Never fallen for it before).

Send a text saying something like "Who is this?" or something.

Definately don't call. Theres a chance it could be a scam, or just a complete loony.

Why are you presuming it's a woman with romantic intentions? (that's what I think you're implying in your post, sorry if I'm wrong)

It could be something completely innocent, a guy asking for help with something or other, asking about a party...

Don't call or text back. That happened to me twice. The mystery dude kept flirting with me; he called and texted me alot. In the end I found out that it was my uncle.

If you don't know anyone with that name, then it probably is a scam!

could just be your friends messing about then they will lolll at you when u call the number haha. My friends used to do stupid crap like that when we were a bit younger, like add me on MSN and pretend to be a girl and try get me to meet 'her'.

I doubt it's a 'scam' i.e. premium rate number or anything like that. If you're so curious just call it.

Haha no it was meant to be a joke. Apparently my dad told him to do that, just to check how gullible I am towards strangers.

Phone the number from a call box. That way you would be anonymous, and if it is one of those scams, then you have only spent 20p - or whatever it is these days.

Reply 13

just call it with 141, if its a premium number, surely you'd beable to tell within a few seconds, them being intially recorded answers.

Take a risk and call. If it's you're firt time then play the game, if it all messes up then theres always next time. Be a little adventurous this time though.

yeah the payphone thing is a good idea

Don't do anything. It's most likely to be a scam, a wind up from a mate, or a wrong number.

If it was anyone worth getting to know they would have explained who they are.

I just got the exact same message. I suspected a scam so I googled and found this thread. The message is:

Not with with those punctuation skills, Sarah...
