Right, i know theres been loads of threads on this, but i want to make a different kind of thread. ok right, we will all say what we have noticed about: Language, structure, setting, point of view, etc and see what we can come up with

Language: Standard English with some colloquialisms. Religious field specific lexis- in places Susan uses it to mock the religion. Ostentatious language.

Structure: Bennett closes it off by tieing up loose ends at the end of the extract.

Setting: is set in Leeds but Parish isnt named- could be anywhere in Leeds. Bennett said himself it is not a 'real' Leeds, but one that exists in his head.

Point of View: 1st person narrative. Is personal and direct although Susan doesn't directly address the audience, she acts as if someones there listening- i.e the camera. We get access to her thoughts that she doesnt reveal to the characters

Tone: Sarcastic, wry, witty and ironic tone.

When she says God has no taste - is this her confirming in some way that God exists? I mean she's still cynical, but she's acknowledging the whole concept of God in a different way. Just a thought. Probably wrong.
