19 and stil cant insert a tampon

Ok i'm 19 and still a virgin and can't insert a tampon. I've tried on and off for a couple of years and I can never do it, i've tried using the tiny ones with lube and it hurts too much i can only get the tip in. Am I doing something wrong? I want to be able to use them and am getting frustrated that i can't, and it makes me worry as ithink if i cant insert a tampon then when the time comes for me to have sex i wont be able to do that either. So basically is it normal for it to hurt a lot?

Calm down - you're stressing out and worried, and therefore your muscles are tensing up too much, that's all it is. I promise you, once you're properly relaxed about it, it'll be fine. Just remember that if a baby's head can get out of there, a tampon can certainly get in!

It might help for you, maybe in a bath or somewhere relaxed, to try putting a finger in and just proving to yourself what you can and cannot do. If you can't get a finer in, you're definitely too tense, and if so you might want to have a look at vaginismus - and if it is that, most women deal with it at some point so it's not that big a deal and easily sorted out. All you need to do is try and relax and stop stressing yourself out by telling yourself that every time you try it'll be really painful and you won't be able to have sex, because that isn't true. Ok?

Good luck with it.

no this is normal  if ur still a virgin ur hymen wont have broken so therefore ya cant insert anything, when u have sex or foreplay (fingerin) your hymen will stretch and eventually break, this can be slightly painful tho but the pain wont last for long. This can also be called 'poppin your cherry'
hopes this has helped u  xx
Hiya, Make sure you are relaxed when you try to insert it.

Have you looked on the internet for techniques on how to insert it? I had problems for a while, until I found a diagram which helped!

If all else fails, go see you GP, don't be embarassed...he/she could check you out to check your anatomy is how it should be.

With sex, that is much more likely to hurt if you are tense, so focus on relaxing.

Good luck! x

No, you can insert things; you just break your hymen when you do. It's true that your hymen will probably be intact but certain sports (especially horse riding) can break it anyway. Maybe I was wrong, but the impression I got was that it was too painful to be breaking a hymen?

You can use tampons if your still a virgin
I've only ever used a tampon once in my life, and didn't find it very comfy (had no problems inserting it, just didn't like it once it was in), so I stick to pads.

If you're having THAT much trouble with tampons, is there any specific reason that you're still trying to use them? Can't you just stick to pads?
Haha exactly the same as me (and I'm 19 too), apparently it's normal before you have sex to have difficulty putting it in. It just hurts too much so I use a pad.
I'm the same, I'm 18 and I've never been able to use them. I'm terrified that I won't be able to have sex. No matter what I do, tampons just don't seem to go in!!!
am 17, I was similar when I was 15/16ish but my mates had been using them since they were about 13/14. I found I couldnt use them until I started masturbating, and have had sex etc. but i still find it can be uncomfortable (or even painful when i'm light) trying to insert them. the more you use them the easier it gets until you have no problems at all.

i find it easier to insert tampons after a nice relaxing bath? try that? and what about the technique you are using, some prefer to stand up/sit down/squat try and experiment? and also don't push it in vertically, ease it in at an angle and slowly!
try those tampax mini? i think they're meant to be thinner.
good luck

hey, I used to have this problem, and realised I had a problem with my hymen (can't remember the correct medical term) anyway basically found it very hard to insert/remove tampons, was really getting me down, felt like a freak etc, worried about having sex, I then went to my GP and she realised what was wrong, I ended up having a very short operation to get it snipped and now can use tampons fine.

Yes, I had to have a doctor look at me, yes it was quite unpleasant (not because of him, just because it was quite embarrassing) but I'm glad I had the determination and confidence to go through with it and get it done, because now I can use tampons fine, and have the added peace of mind that sex might not hurt so much, NOTE: I am NOT saying you should go have surgery, that its your only resort (although I was told it was very routine and very common operation) but I'm saying if you're REALLY worried about it and just want it sorted out, go see your GP and if you need it she will recommend you having it done.

The whole process of going to see your gp about this and a gynaecologist SOUNDS very horrible and embarrassing, but just remember the see things like this on a daily basis, and probably have seen/heard about much worse things,

hope this helps, and don't worry too much! In the grand scheme of things its not the most important thing in the world (althoug it feels like it) x
I'm in your position too, the whole i cant insert a tampon either, and im going to be 19 soon. I bought some last time, and i thinkk i wasted like 3/4 trying to get it in. it was just too painful! oh well. i think ill just stick to pads for now.
I had the same problem. To be honest I still don't know what was wrong, it really wasn't a tensing up issue. Once I'd had sex I tried again and had no problems at all. Do persevere though, because tampons are about a billion times better than pads.

I struggled for ages and ages but each month I kept trying. I found that tampons with applicators were much easier to insert, and also putting a bit of vaseline on the end can help. Just try your best to relax, and try different positions. IF you start getting annoyed leave it for a few hours and try again.

Otherwise do see your GP for some reassurance

Feel sorry for whoever takes your cherry. Seriously though, just play with yourself or invest in a Rampant Rabbit and it should all be fine.

Don't you mean you feel sorry for her when someone else takes it? I'm not so sure that would be such a bad thing.

Well my mate's penis started bleeding one time due to taking the virginity of a girl with the aforementioned problems.

Seriously? **** me. Sure it was him?

Lube is the key.
I'm 18 and i still have no idea how to do it! I have tried a few times but it just doesn't work. It sucks sometimes with swimming etc. Also i'm due on for my 6th form holiday in the summer, i feel as though i'm gonna have to learn before then. :frown:
