Business Studies A2 Coursework ideas...

Hi,

Having completed AS exams, I'm back to school for A2 teaching to begin... oh the joys, lol.

We're going to be starting a piece of coursework based on business problems...

I either have to:

1.

Find a business problem and solve it

2.

Set up a new business idea

I've chosen the first option, as we've been advised that this is what will get the better grades.

I'm going to be applying to study Law at university, so I'd love it to relate to that... however I don't really mind if it doesn't.

I was just wondering what people have done in the past... what their project was based on, or if anyone wants to throw some ideas into the fire?

I'm interested in a recruitment problem...

Maybe others who are doing the same coursework can discuss what they're doing?

Thanks

Do setting up a business, I managed to get 88/90 and I set up a Internet Cafe.. You can have a copy of mine for a price lol. But I can guarentee you a super A..

What Stew said! I did an Internet Cafe and got 95%. Made a spectacular loss (in theory) but you can't really argue with 95%!

Interesting idea.

And I don't want your project, lol

I'm still a little undecided though, nothing has jumped out at me yet :frown:

if you want to solve a business problem you'll need a business that you can get close to, you'll also need a resonable size business to focus on, ie. looking at how TESCO can increase sales? in wayyyyyyy to vague, you need to look at something more like should how can ABC Catering reduce staff turnover?

you also want to avoid looking at what a business has done, ie what did ABC Catering do to reduce Staff Turnover.

You will need a business where you can obtain research from easily, maybe a excert from their balance sheets. A business owned by family or friends would be good, or your workplace if you work for a suitable business

You need primary and secondary data, so make sure, like the above poster said, that you can get close to the business. I started mine on marks and spencer, then realised i couldnt get my secondary data, so did a feasibility study. I dont think either of the choices mean youll get MORE marks, just the way you write it.

I did a feasibility study on setting up a website design company.

From what you've wrote - I think you'd be much better doing a coursework based on sorting out a problem rather than starting out a business. I think you'll be more interested and enjoy your project!

My project was based on a company moving into product development. They had to decide whether to import the product from the USA, China or remain in the UK.

Things I had to look into:
Exchange rates
Legislations overseas (government, ethics)
Languages, differences in culture
Scams
Costs of producing the product
Importing costs/duty
Health and Safety regulations

If you wanted to do something Law related- you could do something like a business moving their production facilities abroad? You could compare the chosen country's laws to the UK laws; government, health and safety, wages, quality, land costs, ethics & social responsibility..

Or maybe a business is thinking of expanding from a partnership to a private limited company. Or an LTD to a PLC - these involve new laws and financial issues.

(Plus all this is part of the Unit 4/6 syllabus! So you're kind of revising too)

Thanks for this advice!!! I definitely like the ideas you've given on incorporating my Law interest in it!

As a token of my thanks, kudos!

Awwwe thank you for the rep!! hehe

A small tip - when presenting your work, use colour ink, diagrams, text boxes and headlines! Split your work up, in a real report people will just want to find the section they're interested in - so if it is set clearly underlined, in a colourful blue box - it's easier to read!

It makes it much much more interesting for the examiner (and more interesting to actually write) rather than marking a 'black and white essay'.

If you want an opinion/advice on your cw later just give me a message I'll be willing to help

Good luck
