I submitted on the 12th and got the email with the form today.

Last year for my mum's occupation I put down what she was doing when I did my first lot of A levels (the ones that weren't good enough for this course), but I don't think they actually specify at what point they want to know your parents' occupation. I'm wondering if I should just put down everything she's done, I'm sure all her previous jobs will fit the criteria.
I added both the jobs my dad had at the time (he's always had multiple jobs). I think as long as they meet Sheffield's requirements, I'm sure they won't mind!

I've finally found the thread. Yay.

Hey everyone! I was rejected last year and I'm applying again 😊 good luck to you all.

I sent off my WP form and received am email saying it had been updated on my UCAS but then I got another email again today asking for the WP form. I've emailed to clarify whether I need to send another 1 😊

Anybody know how to check POLAR3/4 ratings for a specific year?? Whenever I go onto the officeforstudents website, it only shows me the recent quintile rating.

Also, I'm not sure whether or not I should include that my parents don't have any higher education qualifications and that they were unemployed from when I started my A-Levels. I wouldn't be able to provide the evidence since I became estranged in 2016 (just before my undergrad).

Each POLAR survey is based on specific sets of data. For example. POLAR4 is "the data from local areas across the UK that is based on the participation of the higher education of young people who start the academic year aged 18 between 2009-10 and 2013-14". Hence, if you fit into this category, POLAR4 would apply to you. POLAR3 would be between 2005-06 and 2009-10. So you should be able to tell based on this information, which POLAR is relevant to you. For example, my postcode is quintile 1 in POLAR3, but POLAR4 is quintile 2. I mentioned this on my form to let Sheffield decide for themselves, as I already meet 2 of the other criteria

Ah thank you, so it's basically when you were 18? I believe POLAR4 would be applicable for me. I meet a few other things on the form so I think I should be fine. 😅

Thanks for the help again!

You can email them, the worst they can do is say no!

However, I didn't fulfill the A level requirements due to illness and they said they wouldn't consider my application, even with a disrupted studies form and medical evidence. I had to do three more A levels last year to meet the requirements! Based on my experience, I think you will need just try again next year - but there's no harm in asking.
Thanks so much for getting back to me! That’s such a shame they didn’t consider you, sorry to hear that.
Yes I’ll try at least!!
Thanks so much

Good luck! Last year all of us that met the academic, UCAT and WP requirements as listed on the website got interviews so providing your degree is acceptable, you've got a good chance of getting an interview. If there are a lot more applicants than last year, they may need to rank by UCAT but it wasn't needed last time.

Oh also, do you have any idea how many applicants there usually are? Thanks

Last year was the first year. There were about 100 applicants. About half didn't meet all the requirements so were not interviewed. The other 50 or so of us were interviewed with 15 offers made and the next 15 on the reserve list. I was on the reserve list but as you can see, I didn't get a place. There were two offer holders that we knew of who accepted offers elsewhere but we didn't hear from anyone about the reserve list so those places must have been given out to people not on here.

That's everything I know!

How are you finding the pace of the course so far?
Alsoo, are you currently being taught separate from the A100s or together?

I'm really enjoying it and am glad I picked it over my other offers! So basically you spend 6 weeks as just the GEMs going through year one material. We then sat the phase 1 exam as a formative on Wednesday and will be joining the phase 2a as of next week! They could change things up for next year though so bare that in mind
