Will be driving 100 miles approx 2 hours according to Google...i have to be at work at 7.30am. So I can:
1. Drive back the previous day anytime
2. Drive back starting at 5am
3. Try and move my shift a bit later bit would then have to leave probably 8-10am

Starting at 5am the roads will be virtually deserted.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. But if Google says 2 hrs it's likely to be 2.5 minimum so I'll be hitting traffic by the time I get to work and if I'm delayed I'll be late.

I don't think you need to allow another 30 mins leeway at 5am.

Depending on where you are driving, you shouldn't need to worry starting a 2 hour drive at 5am and giving yourself 2.5 hours. At least if you are early you can stop for a coffee near your destination. If there is a big holdup I hardly think your work can complain since you have allocated yourself an extra 25% for delays.

I don't recommend putting the shift back as you are more likely to hit delays.
