Hi there,

Not an applicant myself, but are you going to Oxford tomorrow for the open day? Sounds like it's going to be a great experience.

Taking a gap year, so applying with my A level grades
College: St. Catherines
IGCSEs: 8A*s and 1B
As level: 3As + A in Global Perspectives
A Level: A*Geography, A Math, A Econ

Super nervous about the GAT. Is it true that it isn't that important?

I have looked at the sample questions, but as you wont be credited for knowledge outside of the text I agree there isn’t much else you can do.

Taking a gap year, so applying with my actual grades

College: Keble
GCSEs: 3 9s, 9 A*s (mix of old and new systems, so equivalent of 12 A*s)
AS Levels: 4 As in Biology, Chemistry, Geography, and Maths
A Levels: 3 A*s in Biology, Chemistry, and Geography

Are people sure the GAT won't be used in our application this year? Where/how did you find that out?

Wow your grades are absolutely amazing! I think someone's spreading a rumour, ignore it tbh.

I've just emailed the admissions tutor at Keble asking about the significance of the test results when selecting candidates for interview/offers so will let you know the response!

This was stated by the Geography Academic Administrator in the July open day(s). As the GAT was being run for the first time this year, they would not be using it to assess who to call for interview and probably would not look at the results for the GAT until final offers had been made. The GAT scores would then be looked at, to see if there was a good correlation between the best scores and those that they made final offers to. It is possible they may have changed their minds since then, but this would then seem to put those who put in the effort to attend the open days at a possible disadvantage. My advice would be to try your best at the GAT test, as this will not do your prospects any harm, but will also help the University fine tune the test for future years.
