Is anybody reading this at the typical age of an undergraduate university student and for the moment planning on deferring or foregoing university studies for whatever reason?

Also, are there people reading this who have already gone down the above route?

I’ve just left sixth form and have no idea what I’m doing with my life. So I’m taking a gap year..

Thanks for sharing! Hope you gain a better idea after the gap year as to what your next steps should be.

What do you plan on doing during the gap year?

I have also just graduated secondary school.

I left school and worked for 8 years before going back to college this year having finally decided what I want to do with my life. I start university in September at the age of 26.

I also did an apprenticeship with my current employer in butchery during that time.

Not me personally but my brother has! He did a year of sixth form and sat AS Levels, dropped out and went to college for a month or so, dropped out and got a job for 2 years (entry level IT job). He's now on the home stretch of a 2 year apprenticeship in cyber security.
It may sound like a lot but through all of this experience he's finally decided on what he wants to do! Sixth form and college showed him game design (his chosen path) wasn't for him. His job showed him IT was for him but after his apprenticeship he's realised he doesn't want to specialise in security and is considering a bunch of different options to decide what to do next.

I almost did, went for my first year and hated it. Got a leave of absence because I wasn't sure if I wanted to go back. I did though and I've just finished my first year and my experience was completely different this time.

Was looking for an apprenticeship on my time off, Which would have been wonderful except that I lived alone, and so the pay wasn't really enough.

I went back because I would have regretted if I hadn't seen it through. I was literally miserable working in retail for 5+ years. I need something to work towards/some intellectual stimulation.

I praise everybody who doesn't just go to university because it's now basically become a rite of passage for when you finish school. I roll my eyes so hard when I read all the 'What should I study at university?' threads posted by people who want to go to university and get themselves in debt but don't even know what they want to study and are horrified at the idea of taking a gap year to consider their options
