HELP! I accidentally altered an academic scale in my dissertation Watch

As part of my dissertation research I used a self-report scale which is supposed to utilise a 5-point likert scale (ie. "1 - strongly disagree" to "5 - strongly agree"). However, I have now realised that I have collected all of my data using a 7-point likert scale.

I don't have time to re-start data collection and so need to justify this error somehow. My only thought at the minute is that a 7-point scale will be more sensitive than a 5-point scale, and so I could justify this by saying that it is an attempt to avoid Type 2 error.

Any other ideas/advice?
