It depends on what exactly you are appealing. Do you feel that there was a procedural error or other administrative failing?

It was due to mental health issues that I do have evidence for

It will depend on your university and course however in general you need the full credits to progress to the next year (although some universities will allow you to take 20 credits into second year,( ie you would need to take them in second year so you had the full credits by the end of that year)

Did you put in your evidence of your mental health issues at the time ? Generally the rules and regulations require that rather than you asking for it after you get your results.

Is there a possibility for retakes? How many credits did you fail? If it was just 20 it will be easier than if it is more than that- although the problem then is why your circumstances only lead you to fail one course.

There may be an opportunity to retake the year

You need to talk to someone in the university and discuss your options
